K&L Gates welcomes special counsel in Melbourne

K&L Gates has welcomed a new special counsel in Melbourne.

James Burrell joins the firm’s corporate and transactional team from R.B. Flinders, where he was leading the business and enterprise team. He was also previously with legacy Allens Arthur Robinson.

In his six years with R.B. Flinders as a principal solicitor, he oversaw a wide range of corporate and commercial advisory matters. Burrell has particular expertise in M&A, corporate advisory, and debt finance.

He is also known for his skill in the handling of complex business sale transactions and financing transactions.

Last month, the firm added special counsel Nicholas Heinecke in Sydney. It also recently welcomed special counsel Alex Smith in the city.

In Melbourne, the firm recently recruited partners Zac Kerr and Luke Westmore and special counsel Matthew O'Connor from Mills Oakley.

K&L Gates promoted Australian lawyers Christien Corns and Gordon McCann to the partnership last month.
