Maddocks has attracted two senior lawyers in Sydney from a global giant.

Partner Catherine Merity and special counsel Rosa Sayer will join the firm on 1 May. They join from DLA Piper, where they were partner and senior associate, respectively.

The appointments enhance Maddocks’ corporate offering in several areas, said Duncan Hall, who heads the firm’s corporate and commercial team in Sydney.

Merity, who has practised in both Australia and the UK, specialises in equity capital markets. She has a particular focus on cross-border fundraisings, including multi-jurisdictional IPOs and other capital raisings, Maddock said. She also advises on schemes of arrangement, both public and private M&A, and joint ventures.

Sayer is also an expert in ECM and public and private M&A. She has particular experience in acting in numerous major IPOs in Australia and advising Australian and overseas clients on ASX and Australian securities matters.

Michelle Dixon, Maddocks CEO, said the appointments continue the firm’s growth.

“Catherine’s appointment means that we have added eight new partners in the past 12 months, which is a 12 per cent increase in our partnership over that time. We will continue to add highly talented lawyers like Catherine and Rosa so that we can continue to provide quality legal services to our clients,” Dixon said.

In January, Maddocks bolstered its construction and projects group with the appointment of special counsel Sefton Warner in Melbourne. He came from Norton Rose Fulbright. In November, Maddock’s Sydney construction and projects group welcomed special counsel Catherine Baxter from Ashurst.
