Macpherson Kelley elevates two senior tax lawyers

Macpherson Kelley’s tax team has a new principal and special counsel.

Craig Gibson has been promoted by the commercial law firm to principal, while Carlos Barros has been promoted to special counsel.

“Craig and Carlos are outstanding tax lawyers. Their experience and dedication to delivering for clients made promoting them an easy decision,” Macpherson Kelley CEO Steve Parker said.

Gibson, who joined the firm in 2017, has a special interest in property development and the not-for-profit sector, the firm said.

In property development, he is an expert in structuring transactions and the development and management of CGT, GST, stamp duty, and land tax issues. In the not-for-profit space, he is also a specialist in advising educational institutions, charities, and religious institutions. He also advises on establishing schools, higher education institutions, and charities.

Barros, who was a senior Australian Taxation Office (ATO) executive before joining Macpherson Kelley last year, specialises in property development, managed investment services, foreign investment and inbound transactions, multinational tax structuring, and tax disputes management.

The firm said that Barros, who is a member of the ATO Property and Construction forum, provides unique insights into ATO processes, which are an asset to the firm and its clients.
