Freshfields appoints global co-heads of leveraged finance group

Freshfields has announced the appointment of two partners as co-heads of the global leveraged finance group, effective immediately.

The appointment sees New York-based partner Allison Liff and London-based partner Alex Mitchell jointly take the helm of the global group. This move reflects the continuing expansion of the firm’s private capital practice and the international footprint of the leveraged finance group.

Liff joined Freshfields in October 2022, having previously spent 10 years as a partner at Weil, Gotshal and Manges LLP. Her practice focuses on the representation of private equity firms and their portfolio companies, as well as corporate clients, across the globe in a wide variety of complex domestic and cross-border debt financing transactions.

“I’m excited for the opportunity to share the leadership of our leading global leveraged finance group with Alex,” said Liff. “We look forward to supporting the strategic growth of our practice, and our private capital offering more broadly, and delivering for our clients around the world.”

Mitchell has been with Freshfields for 24 years. He specialises in event driven and other loan transactions, including acquisition and infrastructure financings, IPO facilities and restructurings.

“Allison and I are greatly looking forward to working together from both sides of the Atlantic to help deliver the success of our leveraged finance business across the globe,” said Mitchell.

Freshfields partner and head of global transactions Julian Pritchard said: “Freshfields has a longstanding reputation for executing the market’s most complex international leveraged finance deals - and I know that this is the right team to ensure that our clients continue to get the best support and expertise wherever they need it.”
