Lawyer could face prison after eating evidence

A Russian lawyer who was caught eating evidence in CCTV footage could now face prison.

A Russian lawyer could face up to two years in prison after eating incriminating evidence in an attempt to clear his client from a drink driving charge.

The lawyer, who cannot be named, stuffed a breathalyser report in his pocket before deciding to put it in his mouth and chew it, when the judge and her secretary were out of the office.  The incident was captured on CCTV footage.

When the secretary returned, the lawyer told her that the report was missing and without it, there was no evidence against his client.  The stunned secretary started searching before calling the guard, suspecting the lawyer had taken the evidence.

“The lawyer's guilt cannot be denied when you look at the CCTV film,” a police spokesperson said.

According to a report by The Daily Mail, the lawyer now faces up to two years in prison or a $4,000 fine.  It is unclear whether his client was prosecuted in the absence of the document.
