DLA Piper boosts Perth energy and natural resources offering with three senior hires

DLA Piper has added three lawyers to its ranks as it continues to boost its energy and natural resources offering across Perth.

Owen Alcorn and Matthew Watkins have been appointed as partners, while Neil Macdonald took on a special counsel role. Their appointments will bolster the firm’s capabilities in the energy and natural resources sector and enable further growth, DLA Piper Australia managing partner Amber Matthews confirmed.

Alcorn joins the finance, projects and restructurings (FP&R) team in Perth. Previously, he spent eight years with Herbert Smith Freehills in London.

He has significant experience dealing with a broad range of financing transactions, including project finance, acquisition finance, and general corporate finance. As a new partner, he is expected to support the mining industry and represent lenders and sponsors in infrastructure and renewables projects across Australia.

Watkins will be part of the corporate team in Perth effective 12 September. He will move from Gilbert + Tobin, where he was a special counsel for over four years.

He is an experienced corporate lawyer who specialises in private and public M&A, equity capital markets, and corporate and securities law and regulation. Most of the commercial transactions he has handled pertain to the energy and natural resources sector.

Macdonald also joins the FP&R team in Perth. He has extensive projects experience in the energy and natural resources sector, particularly in natural gas and liquified natural gas. He recently relocated to Perth from the firm’s Hong Kong office.
