First WA-focused contract lawyer service launched

State's largest independent law firm moves with the times

First WA-focused contract lawyer service launched

Jackson McDonald has launched the first Western Australia-focused contract lawyer service.

Through the service called JacMac+, organisations can engage carefully selected freelance lawyers on a flexible basis. The firm is now looking for interested lawyers as the service will first focus on growing its hub of consultants in the next couple of months.

“Our clients’ needs are changing and we’re responding to that,” said Richard Sandover, Jackson McDonald’s chairman of partners. “Legal issues are becoming more complex, the speed of business is faster than ever and commercial competition is intensifying. This filters through to clients looking for more choice and flexibility in the way they manage their legal work. We have established JacMac+ to provide that option: high quality legal resources on a flexible, temporary basis.”

The firm sees the new service as a natural step in the evolution of its commitment to WA.

“We have always been about helping WA to thrive and grow by advising global businesses operating in our state as well as locally grown organisations. JacMac+ is no exception,” Sandover said. “We’re unashamedly focused on helping our clients perform to their optimum in Western Australia, whether they have global, Australasian or WA footprints. We believe that it’s this connection and commitment to our state that really makes JacMac+ stand-out.

WA’s largest independent law firm also recognises that the needs and goals of lawyers are also changing. The driving force behind JacMac+ are partners Isla McRobbie and Liz Tylich, the firm says.

“It’s about diversity of opportunity and enabling lawyers to work in a range of different ways,” said McRobbie, who chairs the firm’s diversity committee. “JacMac+ offers the opportunity for high quality, stimulating work on a flexible basis. It will suit people who enjoy that kind of variety, or who want to combine their legal career with other interests. This is a fantastic development, not just for Jackson McDonald but also for lawyers in WA.”

Tylich said that the firm will also approach JacMac+ with the same driving principles and culture that has made the firm successful.

“We often talk about ‘The JacMac Way.’ It’s really a feeling about the way we do business – how we treat each other and our clients. JacMac+ seeks to apply that same philosophy. Our JacMac+ consultants will be chosen for their technical expertise and their ‘fit’ with ‘The JacMac Way’ and the quality and care that clients have come to expect when doing business with us,” Tylich said.
