Jackson McDonald recruits partner from HK

Jackson McDonald has welcomed Brendan Fyfe to the partnership.

The mining and finance specialist returns to Perth from the Hong Kong partnership of HFW, where he spent nearly eight years and was most recently a partner. Fyfe was also previously with Jones Day in Singapore and Allens in Perth.

Fyfe spent nearly a decade around Asia working with clients in the resources and finance industries in complex cross-border deals in the Asia-Pacific, Europe, and Americas. Before he became a lawyer, he was a miner. He was also previously seconded to Rio Tinto as legal counsel.

Richard Sandover, chairman of partners at Jackson McDonald, said that the firm’s clients increasingly require complex advice across projects in the resources industry. The new appointment bolsters the firm’s offering in the sector, he said.

“By building our expertise in these areas, we are moving with the needs of our clients, and of the WA economy,” Sandover said.

The appointment also reflects and reinforces the firm’s focus on the state, where it is the largest independent law firm. It also supports the firm’s inbound Asian strategy, it said.

Jackson McDonald now has more than 190 staff, including 27 partners. The firm specialises in construction, commercial litigation, commercial transactions, corporate advisory, M&A, mining and resources, energy, property, taxation, insurance, reconstruction and insolvency, and private client service.
