The lawyer has earned some of the world’s most esteemed certifications in cybersecurity, privacy, and information security

Top cyber law expert joins Sladen Legal

Sladen Legal has welcomed a leading figure in cyber law in Australia. Helaine Leggat has joined the firm as a principal and will lead its new cyber law practice.

Leggat is one of the few lawyers in the world to be a Certified Information Systems Security Professional, Certified Information Systems Security Manager, Certified Information Privacy Professional, and Certified Information Privacy Professional - IT. These are among the world’s most esteemed certifications in cybersecurity, privacy, and information security.

Her two decades’ experience includes advising governments and leading corporates on the intersection of IT, global business, and cyberspace. Her practice covers cyber law, cybersecurity, surveillance, information governance, information security, data protection, privacy, and IT law.

“No other lawyer in Australia comes close to matching Helaine’s credentials and expertise,” said Andrew Barnes, Sladen Legal CEO. “Helaine is a recognised global expert in information technology law, not a commercial lawyer who does M&A work and outsourcing contracts for technology companies.”

Leggat is a director of the Australian Information Security Association, a member of the Expert Network for the Australian Department of Industry and Science, and a member of the Ducere Global Business School Global Leaders Faculty. She was also a member of the working group for the Prime Minister's advisory council on cybersecurity.
