Wotton + Kearney
Australia’s Employer of Choice 2019

Wotton + Kearney (W+K) is enthusiastic about building a learning culture at the firm. It knows that helping its people to become their best versions will help contribute to its success. To show that it’s not all talk, the firm just celebrated its biggest year of learning opportunities. For a start, it held over 60 sessions in-house covering technical, client and personal learning modules. That’s 300% up on where it was two years ago.

In performance reviews, W+K constantly asks: “What do you want to continue to do, do more of, do better, or do differently?” and then it’s gone hard on creating opportunities to enable its employees to achieve their professional and personal objectives through either mentoring programs, coaching, seminars, or client secondments.

The firm has also made ‘teachers’ out of its senior lawyers and partners, who are asked to create and deliver the inaugural W+K Fundamentals Program for its general liability lawyers across the country.

W+K has had a phenomenal year of growth, recruiting 20 people to the firm in unbudgeted roles. The firm has also made a huge push toward building its lawyer pipeline. Last year, it grew from four to 19 paralegals across W+K. It was a strategy to kickstart its lawyer pipeline with bright law students who could transition into graduate roles and perpetrate the ‘grow our own’ brand the firm is cultivating.
