Promotion season has entered full swing, with three international heavyweights promoting a total of 82 lawyers to partner level.
Australian lawyers did not miss out on the latest round of promotions either, with eight locals being part of the slew of hires, including one who represented the firm's first Australian internal promotion.
Norton Rose Fulbright has made three promotions in its Australian practices amongst the 46 worldwide.
Corporate, M&A and securities expert Wissam Abwi, and dispute resolution and litigation practitioner Toby Biddle will become partners in the firm’s Sydney base.
Shamim Razavi has also been promoted and will be based in Jakarta.
The promotions are being made across all eight of the practice’s global practice groups and women lawyers featured prominently amongst the field, accounting for 43%.
Norton Rose Fulbright Australia managing partner Wayne Spanner said that the spread of partner promotions between Australia and Asia demonstrates the close working relationship of the firm’s Asia-Pacific offices.
The other international on a hiring spree, Clifford Chance, has elected an Australian internal candidate for the first time, with project finance lawyer Philip Sealey featuring amongst 21 new partners globally.
Sealey’s appointment will take the total number of Clifford Chance partners in Australia to 17, and the total number of partners worldwide to 587.
Ashurst has also made 15 new partnership appointments across its global practices, including four in Australia.
The firm has made five appointments in banking, four in securities and derivatives and one in each of competition, corporate, employment, energy, dispute resolution and real estate.
Along with the Australian promotions, the firm has appointed five partners in the UK, two in Spain, and one in each of France, Germany, UAE and the US.
The fresh appointments will bring the total number of partners at Ashurst to 433.
