Top-tier partner appointed Aussie law journal editor

One top-tier lawyer has been appointed editor of the Australian Journal of Corporate Law.

Herbert Smith Freehills partner Tony Damian has been appointed as an editor of the Australian Journal of Corporate Law, along with corporate and insolvency law professor Christopher Symes of Adelaide University.

Even with 20 years M&A lawyering under his belt, Damian said contributing to critical thinking in the law is vital for all lawyers.

“The role excites me as it will provide an opportunity for me to make a contribution to these important areas. The position is a great privilege and I am very excited to be appointed,” Damian told Australasian Lawyer.

“The AJCL is at the forefront of thought leadership in corporate law.

“So many ideas and reforms are generated through the thinking that is showcased in the journal.  I think that is the hallmark of the AJCL – it really is best in class in the thought leadership stakes.”

Damian has published a number of corporate law books over the years, including Towns Under Siege – Developments in Australian Takeovers and Schemes, which he released last month.

The journal features a range of discussions on major contemporary policy and research issues.  Damian said the effect of emerging technology would likely be a focus for the journal, which is published three times, annually.

“Without wanting to give too much away, I think the intersection of technology and corporate law is a fascinating one and I would expect to see that as one area that receives good coverage over the next stretch,” he said.
