Top firm strikes gold in gas pipeline, power station projects
Herbert Smith Freehills (HSF) has advised the APA Group on a gas pipeline and power station that will supply energy to the Gruyere Gold Project in Western Australia.

The Yamarna Gas Pipeline will power a 45MW gas-fired power plant for the Gruyere Gold Project, which is located about 200 kilometres north-east of Laverton, and north of APA’s Eastern Goldfields Gas pipeline.

In addition to the contracts for the pipeline and power station, APA has also won 15-year-long gas transportation and power supply contracts with the Gruyere Joint Venture, which is equally owned by Gold Road Resources Limited and Gold Fields Limited.

The joint venture is expected to produce gold by early 2019, while the pipeline and power stations are expected to be commissioned in late 2018.

The HSF team was led by partners Rob Merrick and Dan Zador and senior associates Nathan Colangelo, Maja La Rosa, David Rowan, and Chris Wright. The HSF team, which advised on all the contractual agreements for the deal, worked with Amanda Cheney, Theadora Dyer, and Liam Dunstan from APA’s in-house team.

HSF recently worked on the APA Group’s acquisition of the Darling Downs solar farm from Origin Energy.
