Top firm and national bank team up to boost Cyclone Debbie fundraising
Corrs Chambers Westgarth has teamed up with National Australia Bank to quadruple staff donations to communities hit by Cyclone Debbie.

“The destruction caused by Cyclone Debbie is immense and has been devastating for many communities, businesses, and families from the Whitsundays to the New South Wales border,” said Jeremy King, Corrs partner and pro bono chair.

“With NAB’s generous commitment, we are essentially able to ‘turbo charge’ staff donations by 400%, with every $1 donated by a Corrs staff member matched by Corrs partners and then matched again by NAB. It is a great initiative and we are hopeful that it will provide some support and help to those so badly affected by Cyclone Debbie,” he added.

The category 4 tropical cyclone made landfall near Airlie Beach in the Whitsunday Region of Queensland on 28 March. Though the cyclone quickly weakened, it wreaked havoc and caused floods as it travelled south to New South Wales. It claimed at least 12 lives, making it the deadliest cyclone to hit Australia since Cyclone Tracy in 1974.

Cindy Batchelor, executive general manager of NAB Business, said that the devastation across Queensland and northern New South Wales was “beyond anything we’ve seen in the region in recent years.”

“The clean-up and recovery for families, businesses and communities in the impacted areas will be very difficult over coming weeks and months – and we are proud to help through initiatives such as this,” she said.

All funds raised in the campaign that lasts until 20 June will go to organisations such as the Queensland Fire and Emergency and to communities hit by the cyclone.
