Tax specialist joins Thomson Geer

Thomson Geer has attracted a recognised tax expert to join the firm.

Ron Jorgensen will join the firm’s partnership from Rigby Cooke Lawyers, where he once was the head of the tax practice. He was also previously with Sladen Legal.

Jorgensen, who will be based in Melbourne, will work alongside tax partners Arthur Athanasiou and Jeff Chang, as well as consultant Tony Pane.

His appointment increases the firm’s roster of accredited tax specialists with the Law Institute of Victoria to three out of only 16 professionals with the certification across the state. The accreditation is subject to three-year renewals and recognises the lawyers who meet strict experience, professional development, and education requirements in their field of expertise.

Jorgensen has more than two decades’ experience in the law, with a particular focus on taxation. He is a specialist in tax dispute resolution and trusts, as well as consulting on Commonwealth and state tax laws, tax dispute resolution, trusts and trust disputes, succession and asset protection, business and investment structuring and tax sensitive commercial and property transactions, the firm said.

He is a senior fellow with the University of Melbourne, as well as a member of The Tax Institute. He sits on the institute’s tax technical committee and state taxes committee in Victoria.

Thomson Geer now has around 500 people, including 99 partners, working out of offices in Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, and Sydney. The firm recently appointed Arthur Koumoukelis  as a partner from Dentons. In February, the firm recruited partners Sarah Rizk and Darren Fooks from Sladen Legal and Baker McKenzie, respectively.
