There’s no stigma for lawyers and staff that sleep on the job in White & Case’s Washington office.
The elite Wall Street firm has a special room in Washington where it keeps two napping pods that anyone at the firm can use to take a power nap, according to a report from Bloomberg Law.
“Partners have used it. Associates have used it. Staff has used it. I’ve used it,” Frank Vasquez, a White & Case partner in Washington, told the publication. "When you walk into this room, it feels like a pleasant place to be. I think it turned out really well.”
Vasquez said that the tropical green room features a fountain, with dim lights provided by Himalayan salt rock lights that appear like glowing stones. The napping pods, separated by Japanese folding screens, feature nap cycles of 20 minutes that can be extended by the user.
White & Case has 150 lawyers and 150 staff in Washington, and Vasquez said that the napping pods are used “all day long.” He said that while the firm isn’t tracking the pods’ impact, he believes they are “a positive morale-booster.”
The room and its napping pods were suggested by a committee of associate lawyers when the office was renovated two years ago, Vasquez said.
