Seasoned lawyer joins Piper Alderman in Adelaide

Piper Alderman has brought in a new environment, energy, and infrastructure partner.

Kathryn Walker commences at the national firm in Adelaide today, bringing with her more than 20 years’ experience in all aspects of energy, environment, and planning law. She joins from commercial law-focused boutique Cowell Clarke, where she was the leader of the environment, planning, and sustainability practice group.

Her extensive experience includes acting on renewable energy projects, infrastructure and urban renewal, Environment Protection Act compliance, development approvals, land and groundwater contamination, waste-derived fill, native title, water licences, and biodiversity conservation and related disputes, Piper Alderman said. She also advises on tender and construction documents, procurement and project delivery, and construction disputes.

She is the fourth female partner to join Piper Alderman this year. In March, the firm welcomed partner Joanne Hardwick in Melbourne.  In April, partner Sarah Johnson joined the firm’s Sydney shop. Last month, Piper Alderman brought in partner Andrea Beatty and her team in Sydney.

Piper Alderman said that Walker’s experience will complement the current Adelaide-based team, which includes Ashley Watson in the environment and planning team and Martin Lovell in the energy infrastructure practice.

The recent major mandates of the new partner include advising South Australia’s first electricity buying group and acting on South Australia’s big battery project with advice on National Energy Market compliance.

“Her skills are very much aligned with our existing practice, complementing our current offering in Adelaide and nationally,” said Tony Britten-Jones, Piper Alderman managing partner.
