Restructuring pro trades global firms in Singapore

A top restructuring and insolvency lawyer has traded a global firm for another in Singapore.

Wither KhattarWong (WKW), the Singapore Alliance firm of Withers, has appointed Justin Yip as a partner in its dispute resolution team. Yip came from Morgan Lewis Stamford, the alliance firm of Morgan, Lewis & Bockius in the city-state.

“As Singapore develops into an international hub for debt restructuring and dispute resolution, the firm looks to position itself as a leader in advising such matters. Justin’s wealth of experience and commercial approach in restructuring and commercial litigation is in line with Withers KhattarWong’s development of our restructuring and insolvency practice,” said Deborah Barker SC, WKW managing partner.

Yip has a particular focus on restructuring and insolvency, corporate rescues and workouts, distressed and special situation transactions, and commercial litigation. His clients include multinational corporates, Singapore-listed companies, local and foreign financial institutions, bondholders, insolvency administrators, and other stakeholders. He acts in a wide range of court-supervised insolvency proceedings, debt restructurings and special situation transactions.

“He has acted in some of the most prominent and complex corporate bankruptcy, restructuring and insolvency matters in Singapore and the Asia-Pacific region, including significant debt restructuring and bond defaults within the regional natural resources and offshore marine sectors,” the firm said.

Yip will strengthen the firm’s bench of cross-border commercial litigation and arbitration experts, as well as its restructuring and insolvency practice, said Shashi Nathan, regional head of dispute resolution.
