Rapidly expanding firm launches in Canberra

The firm has nabbed three top lawyers from leading firms as part of the rapid expansion.

Mills Oakley officially launched their six month old Canberra office last night.

The launch comes as the firm expands their Canberra practice, which John Nerurker, CEO said is the result of a growing client base, which would have been previously serviced on a fly-in-fly-out basis.

“Canberra is a close knit market so bringing people on board with strong client relationships that have proven to be key to winning market share from some incumbent law firms… we took the view that to take our Canberra business to the next level, we’d have to invest in a permanent office,” said Nerurker.

“Client response has been extremely positive, which reinforces the need I think of any firm wishing to do business in Canberra, to invest in a bricks and mortar presence and to take the time to get to know their clients.”

The firm has simultaneously appointed Mark Flint as partner, a commercial disputes and litigation expert.  Flint joins the Mills Oakley Canberra office from Meyer Vandenberg Lawyers.

Christina Graves and Kylie Neville will join the firm as senior associates.  Graves is a dispute resolution expert, who joins Mills Oakley from Minter Ellison.  Neville, who joins the firm from Sparke Helmore Lawyers, is an expert in public liability and professional indemnity.

“I think we’re going to see strong workflows continue in administrative law, litigation and procurement and tendering,” said Nerurker.  “We’re also hoping to see uplift in corporate, commercial and property in line with the strong practice areas that our new Canberra team brought to the firm.”
