Property experts work on sale of iconic Sydney building

Experts in commercial property from two firms acted in the acquisition of Customs House by the City of Sydney from The Commonwealth of Australia.

Massons fielded a team that was led by partner Leisha de Aboitiz and that included lawyer Jack Vidlerto to act for the City of Sydney in the deal. The Commonwealth of Australia was advised by a MinterEllison team that was headed by partner Rachel McNaught and that included associate Annabel Weiss.

The heritage-listed Customs House, located at Circular Quay, is one of Sydney’s most iconic buildings. It opened in 1845 as the home to the Australian Customs Service, which occupied the building until 1990. Since then, the building has been a mixed-use commercial property.

“Customs House is one of Australia's finest buildings and I'm delighted it will remain in public hands,” Lord Mayor Clover Moore said. “We will now look at how we can improve the building to ensure it remains a valuable community asset for generations to come.”

Financial details of the deal were not revealed.
