Sparke Helmore has begun 2016 with Phillip Salem at the helm, beginning his role as national managing partner on 1 March.
“I look forward to the challenges ahead,” Salem told Australasian Lawyer.
“I’m hoping that the organisation will continue to flourish and that our people are in a position where they can strive for success as individuals.
“There’s lots of opportunities that will help us progress further as an organisation.”
Speaking about his new role, Salem said he’ll be emphasising client needs.
“I’d like to become an organisation that’s really client focussed, that’s not only solving problems for our clients but finding them and helping them resolve problems,” he said.
Salem has held other leadership positions at Sparke Helmore, having previously been chairman of partners.
“I’m excited about being in this role and I’m excited about our prospects and I think Sparke Helmore is well positioned to become one of the best known national independent law firms and I’m looking forward to being a part of that.”
Salem has taken over the role from Jesse Webb who had been national managing partner since 2009. Webb has moved back into practice as an insurance partner.
“In announcing Phillip's appointment, I want to express my thanks to Jesse for his outstanding contribution and personal commitment to the firm and its values as our national managing partner of nearly seven years,” said chair of partners Mark Hickey.
“We now look forward to benefitting from Jesse's experience and reputation as an excellent insurance lawyer.
“I congratulate Phillip on his appointment and look forward to working with him and the leadership team in driving the firm's growth and achieving our vision.”
