Piper Alderman has looked to the DibbsBarker corner for its newest partner appointment.

Andrew Rankin is joining Piper Alderman as partner, less than two years after his transfer to DibbsBarker from Norton Rose Fulbright, where he spent more than 10 years in the partnership.

Rankin is joining the firm’s national corporate practice in Brisbane as Piper Alderman strategically builds its team in the city.

“Over the past five years, we have been strategically building our Brisbane office through a series of senior partner appointments. The addition of Andrew will further cement Piper Alderman as a serious player in the Brisbane legal market,” said Ted Williams, head of the firm’s Brisbane office. “Culturally, Andrew is a great fit for our firm.”

Ranking has more than 20 years’ experience in corporate and commercial law. He regularly works with domestic and international clients on mergers and acquisitions, capital raisings, competition law, and regulatory compliance matters. He is recognised by Best Lawyers Australia as a top lawyer in corporate, M&A, corporate governance, and competition law.

Piper Alderman has also scored two new senior associates from the in-house and private practice sectors.

It has appointed Andrew Barling as its newest senior associate in Melbourne. Barling, who joins from Fujitsu, where he was corporate counsel and commercial director, joins the firm’s national intellectual property and technology practice.

Piper Alderman has also appointed Angelina Kozary, who joins from ERA Legal, as a senior associate in Sydney. Moving from Melbourne to her new base, Kozary joins the firm’s dispute resolution team.

Piper Alderman recently lost senior partner Esteban Gomez, who also specialised in corporate law, particularly M&A and capital markets, to Holding Redlich. In April, DibbsBarker confirmed that it has welcomed four lawyers from various rivals to bolster its Melbourne office.
