McCullough Robertson continues raid on HDY

Two more practice leaders make the move

McCullough Robertson continues raid on HDY
McCullough Robertson has again looked to Henry Davis York (HDY) for its two newest partners.

The commercial law specialist has appointed Ben Mortimer and Matthew McMillan to the partnership. Mortimer was the former joint head of HDY’s corporate M&A practice, while McMillan previously led HDY’s technology group.

The appointments come after McCullough Robertson hired partners Jason Munstermann and Scarlet Reid. Munstermann most recently led HDY’s disputes team, while Reid headed her former firm’s employment and safety practice.

Mortimer has particular experience in the financial services sector, being a constant adviser to top financial institutions and the “Big Four” banks.

In addition to M&A, he is a specialist on divestments, joint ventures, strategic commercial arrangements, corporate restructures, and complex service and supply arrangements. Mortimer has also worked with numerous New South Wales government agencies. He also acts for clients in the government, infrastructure, and health sectors.

McMillan is a specialist in technology, communications, intellectual property, and privacy and data protection. In addition to acting in complex information, communication, and technology procurement arrangements, large-scale outsourcing, managed-services projects, and systems development and integration projects, he also advises on big data, analytics, data breach, and cyber risk matters.

McMillan’s clients come from a range of industries, including government, IT, financial services, energy, transport and infrastructure. He also acts for the “Big Four” banks.

“Ben and Matt have recognised depth of experience in their fields and have worked with clients in the public sector and across a range of industries, which align with our expertise and industry footprints particularly in government, telecommunications media and technology, resources and energy,” said Dominic McGann, chairman of partners at McCullough Robertson.

He said that the firm will “continue to invite outstanding leaders in the legal profession to join us,” as the firm builds a “true east coast brand.”
