Maddocks builds up Canberra office with lateral pick

Maddocks is gaining a new partner as it continues to grow its Canberra office.

Joining the independent firm’s partnership is Pria O’Sullivan. She is moving to the firm on 2 July from King & Wood Mallesons (KWM), where she has been a special counsel in the projects and real estate group for more than five years. Prior to KWM, O’Sullivan was also a special counsel at MinterEllison.

The seasoned lawyer brings with her 17 years’ experience in leasing, acquisitions, disposals, and developments in both the private and government sectors. She also acts in planning advisory matters, Commonwealth Government construction and medium works projects, property and property-related procurement services, government advisory including aged care regulatory work, and property and planning due diligence for M&A and real estate transactions.

“Pria has built a reputation as an outstanding property lawyer working on key projects for government and the private sector and will further enhance our national property offering to clients,” said Simonetta Astolfi, Maddocks’ Commonwealth Government sector leader.

O’Sullivan’s appointment continues the firm’s growth in Canberra, which welcomed city practice leader Caroline Atkins from DLA Piper just over a year ago. She was joined by partners Anthony Willis and Gavan Mackenzie, as DLA Piper closed its office in the capital.

Atkins said that the firm’s growth in Canberra has been driven by clients.

“Maddocks is deeply committed to Canberra and our Commonwealth Government and private sector clients,” Atkins said. “It is vital that we continue to anticipate and understand the issues our clients are contending with, and ensure that we invest in our people and the necessary resources required to support the outcomes they are looking for.”

Michelle Dixon, Maddocks CEO, pointed out that O’Sullivan is the third partner to have joined or be appointed by the firm since 1 May. The firm recently attracted employment partner Maree Skinner from DibbsBarker, while ECM partner Catherine Merity moved from DLA Piper this month.

“We work hard at Maddocks to attract outstanding talent with a track record of success when it comes to client service, and Pria certainly fits that,” Dixon said. “We are looking forward to Pria joining our vibrant Canberra team and helping to continue the fantastic momentum we have in that office and the wider firm.”
