Macpherson Kelley grows with three lateral hires

Three lateral hires have grown the commercial and private client groups of a national firm in Sydney.

Macpherson Kelley has appointed Racha Abboud, Rita Khodeir, and Suzanne Hallas-Gleeson as principals. Abboud and Khodeir, who joined the firm’s commercial team to focus on commercial and IP matters, respectively, were senior associates at Coleman Greig Lawyers. Hallas-Gleeson, who joined the firm’s private client practice to focus on family law, was a partner at Pigott Stinson.

“Racha, Rita and Suzanne bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the firm that will build on our platform for growth into the future,” said CEO Steve Parker.

Abboud has extensive experience in all areas of corporate and commercial practice, particularly in franchising. She is a committee member of the Franchise Council of Australia and was chairperson of its Women in Franchising association.

“The franchise sector is one of Australia’s biggest business sectors,” Abboud said. “It has many unique challenges and opportunities and helping clients to navigate them successfully is very satisfying.”

Khodeir, an intellectual property lawyer and registered trademarks attorney, has a particular focus on developing practical and cost-effective strategies for IP protection.  She is an expert in all areas of IP, with a strong background in IP litigation. She also has experience managing the trademarks portfolios of large and small companies.

“Intellectual property can often be a client’s greatest asset. Ensuring they achieve the greatest value from their IP and that it is protected are keys to achieving their business goals,” she said.

Hallas-Gleeson, who has more than 25 years’ experience, practises in all areas of family law. She has significant expertise in financial agreements, property settlements, divorce, and parenting matters.

Last month, the firm recruited seasoned employment lawyer John-Anthony Hodgens to boost its Brisbane presence as a workplace relations consultant. In June, the firm named its first chief executive and promoted 15 lawyers.
