London lawyer clinches martial arts crown in Britain
A senior associate at RPC has won the British Open to be crowned the country's best in Brazilian jiu-jitsu (BJJ).

David Allinson, who is a member of the insurance specialist firm’s professional and financial risks team, bested more than 1,600 other experts of the martial art in the event, a report from Legal Cheek said.

“I’ve always enjoyed sport and fell into BJJ after becoming a fan of mixed martial arts. It was a lot harder to find a club back when I started, but there was a guy teaching in my home town and I went along once and was hooked,” Allinson said.

Allinson said he trains thrice a week, taking advantage of the City firm’s flexible working policy to train in the lead up to competitions.

However, he isn’t the first RPC lawyer to make headlines because of martial arts. Corporate partner Nigel Collins is also a specialist in the Japanese martial art of kendo and leads the Great Britain kendo team.

Collins, who heads the firm’s Japan desk, has “extensive experience and a deep cultural knowledge of Japan and Japanese business,” his profile says.
