Sparke Helmore has promoted two lawyers to the partnership, bolstering the firm’s government and corporate and commercial groups with the appointments of Matthew Hawker and Nick Christiansen.
Hawker practices exclusively in administrative law litigation and workers’ compensation claims and advises on claims management and litigation matters. He has extensive experience as solicitor-advocate before the Administrative Appeals Tribunal, the Federal Circuit Court, and the Federal Court of Australia. Hawker, who advises Commonwealth agencies, licensees, and insurers, joined the firm in 2007 and was promoted from senior associate.
Christiansen is a commercial litigator who specialises in complex commercial disputes. He acts in class actions, competition and commercial law claims and regulatory actions, and corporations law proceedings. Christiansen, who joined Sparke Helmore as a senior associate in 2013 from Gilbert + Tobin, also acts in corporate and personal insolvency litigation in non-contentious insolvency and restructuring matters.
The insurance specialist firm now lists 76 partners on its site. It has more than 700 people working from eight offices across Australia. The firm also services the government, financial services, technology, mining, construction, and property industries.
