Lighter side: Sneaky tenants bind landlord to providing birthday cake

Tenants amend a clause in their rental agreement requiring a landlord to provide them with birthday cake.

A pair of renters has made a brilliant amendment to their agreement, requiring the landlord to bring them birthday cake.

“Lessor shall provide birthday cake for Lessee(s) in the weekend closest to their birthdays, which are June 7 and February 17.  Vanilla cake is not acceptable,” the amended agreement read.

And the landlord signed it, Legal Cheek reported.

A copy of the lease went viral after it was posted online by US Reddit user GloriousGherkins

According to a report by Domain, several commenters have pointed out that the addition probably wasn’t legal and may not be valid under contract law.

“He signed it after I made the change, and I’m going to hold him to it,” GloriusGherkins stated in response to the comments.

The lesson?  Don’t send a rental agreement in a word document.
