LegalVision expands with new practice

LegalVision is expanding with the launch of a new tax practice and has recruited a seasoned lawyer to lead the charge.

James Meli has been appointed the tax practice leader by the NewLaw firm. He comes from Economos, the independent Sydney accounting, taxation, and financial service boutique, where he was director of tax.

Meli started his career at the Australian Taxation Office, where he specialised in high-wealth individuals. He later joined top accounting firm Hall and Chadwick, where he advised high-net-worth individuals, small businesses, and listed entities on a wide range of tax matters.

The new partner’s expertise will enhance LegalVision’s ability to assist start-ups, SMEs, developers, and investors with tax advice, including restructuring, audits, disputes and overseas expansion, the firm said.

Lachlan McKnight, LegalVision CEO, said that Meli’s experience and expertise adds “immense value” for the firm’s clients.

“We’ve seen first-hand how many businesses need a tax expert in order to navigate the complexity of the tax landscape. Whether our clients are operating locally or expanding into international markets, we’ll now be able to assist them,” McKnight said.

Meli is an expert in CGT and CGT rollovers, employee share scheme restructuring, duties reliefs, property development structuring, inbound and outbound international tax, trusts taxation, and accruals taxation.
