The US legal industry may greatly benefit from the Trump government, a legal consultant has predicted.
In an interview with Law360, Peter Zeughauser says that “we’re going to see a legal industry on steroids” now that Trump has won America’s presidential election.
The Trump government “would be the biggest thing in the legal industry since the enactment of the U.S. Constitution,” he added.
Several specialisations are set to benefit from the new administration, the legal consultant said. One of these is immigration law which will see an uptick in legal work available if Trump delivers on his campaign promise to use executive action to repeal President Barrack Obama’s deferred deportation program.
If this comes to fruition, companies would need legal advice to keep workers, immigration specialists say, according to Law360. Furthermore, Trump has also hinted at the possibility of more corporate audits for compliance with documentation to prove workers’ eligibility to work in the US.
Meanwhile, Zeughauser also predicts that international trade experts will “have a field day”if Trump makes good on his campaign promise to renegotiate trade deals. This could result in cases brought before the International Trade Commission which will bring in more work for lawyers.
Healthcare may also see a surge in work if the Affordable Care Act is repealed. Lawyers focused on infrastructure will also greatly benefit from Trump’s promise to rebuilt the country’s infrastructure, the story notes.
