Leading firms act in sale of Australasian M&A broker

An M&A broker operating in Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa has been acquired by a leading global advisory firm with the help of Baker McKenzie and Gilbert + Tobin (G+T).

Baker McKenzie acted for Willis Towers Watson on the acquisition of Risk Capital Advisors (RCA), which was counselled by G+T.

The acquisition enhances Willis Towers Watson’s offering in a growing M&A market, while RCA will become a fully integrated part of its new parent’s FINEX global line of business. RCA specialises in warranty & indemnity insurance and other bespoke M&A products.

The Baker McKenzie team was headed by partner Andrea Kennedy, with special counsel Chris Taylor and general associate Darryl Jago in Melbourne. They were supported by from Baker McKenzie teams in Hong Kong and Johannesburg.

The G+T team was headed by corporate advisory partner David Josselsohn. He was supported by lawyer Adrian Zhang and graduate James Soussa.

G+T said that its corporate team was also supported by experts across the firm, including financial regulatory partner Peter Reeves and lawyer Georgina Willcock. Tax Partner Muhunthan Kanagaratnam and employment special counsel James Pomeroy also acted on the deal.
