KWM scores banking and finance partner
King & Wood Mallesons (KWM) has added an experienced international lawyer and banker to its talent pool in Sydney.

Dale Rayner has officially joined the firm’s banking and finance practice in the city from Norton Rose Fulbright (NRF). The news comes after Rayner was reported to have handed in his resignation before the merger with legacy Henry Davis York went live. It also comes after international firm Bird & Bird has officially welcomed a total of three partners from NRF in the recent weeks.

The new appointment also comes after KWM lost corporate partner Ian Gordon to Hogan Lovells in Perth. DLA Piper also recently hired litigation partner and dispute resolution specialist Natalie Caton from KWM.

Rayner is a trusted adviser to leading financial institutions and banks. He has particular focus on asset and structured finance and extensive experience in banking and finance law, including derivatives, Islamic finance, and financing for Papua New Guinea clients.

Rayner began his career at MinterEllison in Brisbane. He then joined legacy Mallesons Stephen Jaques in Sydney, Allen & Overy in Hong Kong, Société Générale in Hong Kong and London, HSBC in Hong Kong, and Clifford Chance in Sydney. He joined NRF as a partner in 2014.

KWM said that Rayner’s extensive Asian connections and experience will be invaluable in the further development of its regional offering.

“His wealth of legal and commercial expertise and his preeminent international reputation are a compelling offering for clients and will complement our existing capability as we continue to grow our B&F practice in both Australia and Asia,” said Berkeley Cox, KWM chief executive partner in Australia.
