KWM European chief stepping down
The senior partner of King & Wood Mallesons in Europe and the Middle East is stepping down and returning to fee earning after serving half of his second three-year term.
Stephen Kon joined KWM as part of the merger with SJ Berwin where he had been since 1982.
The region has seen some tricky times for the global law firm and Kon’s time as senior partner has included overseeing a restructuring of the partnership and financial issues which meant the firm requesting a cash-injection from partners.
Many lawyers regret career choice says research
Around 37 per cent of senior associates say they wouldn’t choose to be a lawyer again according to a new report.
A study by The Lawyer reveals that trainees are the happiest with their career choice with 59 per cent saying they would do it again compared to 17 per cent who wouldn’t.
Partners are also relatively happy with 29 per cent regretting becoming a lawyer, a drop of 10 percentage points from a year ago.
The larger proportion of associates that are feeling less content with their careers stems from the belief that their firms do not provide good opportunities to make partner. This view appears to worsen even as lawyers progress through the ranks.
