King & Wood Mallesons (KWM) has expanded its team of dispute resolution experts with a new partner appointment in Hong Kong.

Rachel Yu has joined the firm, making the move from Herbert Smith Freehills, where she was a senior associate. She brings to the firm more than 12 years’ experience, primarily advising on complex financial disputes.

“We have interviewed so many candidates to identify the right fit for our financial clients. Rachel’s background reveals a perfect blend of complex financial and regulatory work, not to mention her fluent Putonghua,” said Paul Starr, who heads the KWM dispute resolution team in Hong Kong.

Richard Mazzochi, head of the firm’s banking and finance team in Hong Kong, said that the appointment is another step in strengthening KWM’s ability to conduct both contentious and non-contentious matters for banks and financial institutions.

“Rachel’s experience enhances our existing and established Asia regulatory practice and allows us to better assist our clients on all types of regulatory investigation and litigation issues,” Mazzochi said.

Yu is fluent in English, Mandarin, and Cantonese. Her practice serves a wide range of clients, including Chinese and global investment banks, retail banks, private equity funds, asset managers, brokerages, China-listed companies, and high-net-worth individuals.
