K&L Gates has named Sam Brown as partner in Sydney.

The US BigLaw firm hired Brown from Watson Mangioni. The real estate specialist said he was attracted to the firm because of its expertise in his field.

“With a team of approximately 200 lawyers, K&L Gates has one of the largest and most diversified real estate practices of any global firm. I look forward to offering my clients the full resources of K&L Gates’ fully integrated global network,” he said.

Brown advises clients on acquisitions and disposals, government tenders, major project and development agreements, and fund through arrangements. He also acts in commercial, mixed use, and residential property developments; commercial, industrial, and retail leasing; and land use and access rights.

The firm said Brown also specialises in property due diligence, large-scale infrastructure transactions, and property funds, as well as advises receivers on the stabilisation and sale of assets.

Nick Nichola, K&L Gates Australian managing partner, said that the firm is very pleased to welcome Brown. “Sam's breadth of experience in Australia's property industry will be of tremendous benefit to both domestic clients and foreign companies seeking investment opportunities in Australia.”

The appointment comes after the firm welcomed industrial relations expert and former Ashurst partner Steven Amendola in Melbourne earlier this month. Last August, the firm hired banking and finance specialist and former HWL Ebsworth partner Richard Gray in Sydney. In January, the firm snagged tax specialist and former DLA Piper partner Matthew Cridland in Sydney.
