A national industrial practice group leader, a state practice group leader, and a principal lawyer have been named by the firm
Slater and Gordon has elevated senior employment lawyers among its ranks to lead the firm’s industrial practice.
Phil Pasfield, who joined the firm in 2001, has been elevated to lead the national industrial practice group, which was established 80 years ago. Ben Harwick, the firm’s acting head of general law, said Pasfield has been involved in numerous industrial cases throughout his career, including landmark cases like the constitutional challenged to the Workplace Relations Act in 2006.
The firm has also scored Geoff Borenstein from Australia’s Electrical Trades Union. He will lead the firm’s Victorian industrial practice as a senior industrial lawyer. Borenstein, known as a leading union lawyer in Victoria, said that he is delighted to be joining the same firm his father, Herman Borenstein, joined in the early 70s.
“This is an important time for Australian workers and the accessibility of innovative and high-quality legal services will play a crucial role in the protection of their rights into the future,” he said.
Slater and Gordon has also elevated Mick Sayers, who has spent more than 20 years in the firm’s workers compensation, union and employment practices, to principal lawyer.
Harwick said the trio will be part of the leadership group to take the firm’s industrial practice forward, with its long history as an inspiration.
“Slater and Gordon started its life as the firm for the Railways Union in 1935, and has helped shape the Australian industrial landscape throughout the 80 years since then,” he said.
