A Sydney partner becomes the sixth practice leader to flee the merging firm

K&L Gates has appointed Jennifer Degotardi as a partner in Sydney, marking another partner defection from Henry Davis York (HDY).
HDY has experience a series of partner defections in the last few months as it finalises its merger with Norton Rose Fulbright (NRF). Just last week, three firms confirmed hiring 10 lawyers, including three partners and a special counsel, from the merging firm.
Degotardi led the real estate team at HDY and is the sixth practice leader to leave her old firm for a rival. Last month, McCullough Robertson confirmed hiring four practice leaders from HDY in two successive announcements. Last week’s batch of hires included another HDY practice leader who went to Gadens.
Degotardi, who has extensive experience in all aspects of commercial property, said K&L Gate’s global network will benefit her private-sector clients and their increasingly diverse real estate portfolios. She acts for both government and private-sector clients. Degotardi focuses on development, property management, and leasing. She also has particular experience in complex sales and acquisitions, due diligence, joint ventures, asset and facilities management agreements, property development, leasing, and the property aspects of infrastructure projects.
Nick Nichola, K&L Gates’ managing partner in Australia, said the firm is focused on attracting top talent. With the arrival of Degotardi, the global firm has already hired five partners from rivals this year.
In January, it hired corporate and transactional partner Matthew Cridland from DLA Piper. In August, the firm hired banking and finance partner Richard Gray from HWL Ebsworth.
Last month, K&L Gates hired employment and workplace safety partner Steven Amendola from Ashurst and real estate partner Sam Brown from Watson Mangioni.
