Sophie Chen has joined the Gilbert + Tobin (G+T) partnership. The Chinese foreign direct investment expert moves after six years as a partner at MinterEllison and will oversee G+T’s China practice.

“She is unquestionably one of the go-to lawyers in Australia for inbound M&A work out of China, and she will further strengthen our position as a leading corporate practice in Australia,” said Danny Gilbert, G+T’s managing partner.

Chen is dual-qualified in Australia and China. Her broad practice covers M&A, ECM, REITs, joint ventures, corporate governance, and regulatory approvals. She advises clients in a broad range of industries, including real estate, energy and resources, infrastructure and transport, financial services, healthcare, education, and agribusiness.

Chen led the MinterEllison team that worked on the largest mining deal in Australia in 2017. She also oversaw the firm’s team that helped a major Chinese company make its first Australian commercial property investment with a major purchase in Sydney last year.
