Gold Coast criminal lawyer arrested on drug charges

A Gold Coast criminal lawyer is facing charges after being caught up in a drugs and guns bust.

26-year-old criminal lawyer Briana Ioannides was arrested yesterday after police found two firearms, a loaded sawn-off shotgun and a handgun, thousands of dollars in cash and a large quantity of drugs in her home.

Ioannides has reportedly been suspended from her job with Southport criminal law firm Gatenby Lawyers.  Principal Michael Gatenby told the Courier Mail that he was waiting to speak to Ioannides before he would comment on her arrest.

She was arrested along with her boyfriend, Daniel White-Mayne, following the raid on her Bundall home, police finding steroids, ‘ice’, cannabis, ecstasy and liquid ‘GBH’.

The couple were questioned at Burleigh Heads police station yesterday and charged with multiple drug and firearms offences.

White-Mayne is expected to face Southport Magistrates Court today; Ioannides was bailed to appear on December 9, the Courier Mail reported.
