Firm launches new grad app

One firm is embracing new technology for graduate recruitment.

King & Wood Mallesons has launched an app, allowing potential clerks to navigate the application process.

Freely available to the public through the App Store and Google Play, graduate resourcing manager Sam Garner said it gives students an insight into commercial law.

“What we were trying to do was give people access to the [different] the types of work you really do as a junior lawyer, what’s your average day,” she told Australasian Lawyer.

“It really is an insight into what a commercial law firm is really like and that was really the main goal and purpose.”

The app, KWM Become, includes a quiz, designed to help students decide if KWM is right for them, as well as information and useful tips about the application process in an easily digestible format.  It takes the firm’s active social media strategy for graduate recruitment, one step further.

“It’s just a little bit different,” Garner said, adding that the development of the app was the result of consultation with current clerks, finding out what would have been helpful to them throughout the process.

The launch coincides with the opening of applications for the firm’s clerkship program.

“We hope that KWM Become takes some of the mystery out of clerkships and facilitates the perfect fit between the student and the law firm they choose,” Garner said.
