Firm bets on governance consultancy

Firm bets on governance consultancy
HopgoodGanim has made a significant investment in Effective Governance, the country’s largest and longest-serving governance consultancy.

With the investment, the firm can offer clients a more integrated suite of corporate governance tools, including governance, board, and CEO reviews, as well as strategy and risk-management services and professional development for boards.

The investment supports the revival of multi-disciplinary practices that deliver both legal and consulting services, said James Beck, managing director of Effective Governance.

“While some law firms promote they offer governance services, it’s often with just a legal and compliance lens,” he said.

The company’s solutions provide a greater depth of analysis that enables them to assist clients to effectively implement governance, with a focus on adding value and enhancing the organisation’s bottom line, he said.
Bruce Humphrys, HopgoodGanim managing partner, said that the investment comes after seeing robust client demand for non-legal services.

“We have been testing the appetite of our clients for non-legal advisory services for several years and the need is strong,” he said.

HopgoodGanim’s investment comes after the firm announced in May that it is combining Hunt & Humphry, a Perth-based boutique specialising in projects and resources. The firm also recently launched a patent advisory service, hiring a veteran of the mining and energy sectors to oversee the new unit.
