He has more than three decades of senior in-house experience at the insurer and two major financial institutions

DLA Piper has snapped up American International Group’s (AIG) deputy general counsel.

Nicholas Kourides has been appointed as a senior counsel at the firm’s insurance practice in New York.

Kourides, who also held the title of senior vice president at AIG, has more than three decades of in-house experience. At AIG, he was the head of the global regulatory and US Federal Reserve supervision. He was also the insurer’s general counsel for mergers and acquisitions.

He has also held senior positions at American Express and Chase Bank. He brings to DLA Piper his extensive experience in corporate transactions, which includes mergers and acquisitions, restructuring and divestitures, cross-border matters, and international regulatory issues.

Kourides is a current financial law professor at Columbia School of Law, where he earned his JD. He graduated with a BA from Princeton University.
