DLA Piper charms partner away from HSF

DLA Piper is set to grow in Brisbane after it charmed a partner from another global giant.

The international firm has appointed senior finance lawyer David Lyons as a partner in the firm’s finance, projects, and restructuring practice. He is joining the firm from Herbert Smith Freehills, which recruited him from Norton Rose Fulbright in 2013.

Lyons has both traditional transactional and strategic advisory experience for a range of financial-services clients buying and selling portfolios and businesses, DLA Piper said.

He also brings to the firm a strong network in Australia and beyond and experience helping businesses expanding into the Asian, European, and North and South American markets.

Onno Bakker, the head of DLA Piper’s finance, projects, and restructuring practice in Australia, said that the practice is going from strength to strength in the country.

“Stand by for more news in 2019,” he said.

The appointment comes after DLA Piper, in what it described as a significant endorsement of Australia’s performance within the firm, elevated its joint managing partners in the country to international leadership roles.
