DLA Piper advances two in Australia

Two Australian lawyers are part of a global giant’s latest 62-partner promotion round.

Eddie Ahn from Sydney and Alyson Eather from Perth will join the DLA Piper partnership on 1 May.

Ahn specialises in corporate tax and real estate matters, with a particular focus on tax structuring, cross-border transactions, tax consolidation, and stamp duty. He advises major corporate groups on tax structuring acquisitions and internal corporate reorganisations, parties involved in infrastructure projects on taxation and stamp duty implications, and inbound and outbound investment funds on the structuring and taxation implications of investments.

Eather is an expert in finance and projects. She advises both public- and private-sector clients on major projects, including complex contract risk review and strategic procurement and probity. She also acts for a range of mining and infrastructure clients on procurement and construction contracts, as well as project and mining infrastructure related contracts, both in Western Australia and internationally.

Most of the firm’s new partners come from the litigation and regulatory group, which had 16 among the promoted lawyers. The group is followed by corporate (14), tax (8), finance and projects (8), real estate (6), intellectual property and technology (4), employment (3), and government affairs (2). There is also a new partner in the firm’s US office of general counsel.

DLA Piper made the most promotions in the US, which had 19 lawyers in the promotion round. Continental Europe followed with 18, followed by 10 in the UK, six in Canada, two in Australia, two in Asia, two in the Middle East, and one in South Africa.

“I would like to congratulate all of our lawyers who have been promoted to partners this year. This round of promotions brings to our partnership another highly talented group from across the world who represent the quality, breadth and depth of DLA Piper and are vital to the continued success of our business,” said Simon Levine, global co-CEO.

“Their client work and importance to the firm are now a foundational part of our ongoing success and our ability to evolve to meet the challenges of the market, and they will play a key role in our delivery of legal services of the highest quality and value to our clients around the world. We look very forward to their ongoing contributions,” said global co-CEO Jay Rains.
