With cyber crime now the leading economic crime in Australia, cybersecurity is no longer just an IT issue
LexisNexis has added a new cybersecurity module to its platform as cyber crime becomes a more pressing issue in the country.
The company has added its “Practical Guidance Cybersecurity, Data Protection and Privacy” module to its platform, giving practitioners a walkthrough of the practical steps they can take and resources they can use on cybersecurity, data protection, and privacy matters.
“Organisations of all sizes across all industries are falling victim to data breaches, as cyber crime has become the number-one economic crime in Australia,” said Simon Wilkins, LexisNexis general manager for Australia. “As such, this is no longer just an IT issue, and lawyers will increasingly be expected to provide high level business strategy advice in order to fully protect their clients or organisations from loss of data, privacy breaches and financial harm.”
The module helps practitioners establish a workflow for cybersecurity matters, including assisting in the preparation of data-security audit and disaster-recovery plans.
The module also incorporates the cybersecurity-related laws of 27 jurisdictions to help organisations handle the security of offshore data transfers. LexisNexis also said the module will be continually updated when compliance obligations change, such as when the Notifiable Data Breach (NDB) amendment to the Privacy Act takes effect on 22 February.
