Corrs gains seasoned partner from HSF

Corrs Chambers Westgarth will gain a seasoned lawyer from the Herbert Smith Freehills (HSF) partnership.

Kon Mellos will move to Corrs in Melbourne after more than 23 years at HSF, where he founded the firm’s Australian private equity practice. Mellos is a specialist corporate and governance lawyer, with particular focus on acting for financial institutions in investment and fundraising matters.

“Kon’s breadth of experience and deep expertise advising superannuation funds, sovereign wealth funds, and fund managers on fund formation, M&A, and investment transactions across private equity, venture capital, infrastructure, real estate, private debt, and other asset classes, fits into our firm’s comprehensive offering for both domestic and international institutional investment clients,” said John W.H. Denton AO, Corrs partner and CEO.

The appointment comes just a couple of weeks after Corrs scored a major coup in the hire of a five-partner team from another national law firm.

Last month, it appointed partners Patrick O'Grady, Cameron Cheetham, Craig Ensor, Ben Emblin, and Michael Catchpoole from Henry Davis York, which is due to complete its merger with Norton Rose Fulbright.
