Ashurst celebrates 100 years of women in Australian law
It was 1918 that the Women’s Legal Status Act 1918 (NSW) was passed, enabling women to practise and stand for parliament for the first time in New South Wales.

Ashurst has been marking the 100th anniversary of this landmark legislation which came 15 years after Victoria had become the first Australian state to allow women to practise.

The firm has shown support of the First 100 Years initiative with a photomosaic portrait of Ada Evans, the first Australian woman to graduate with a Bachelor of Laws; created by multimedia artist Rocco Fazzari and made up of a collection of photographs of over 160 staff, clients and affiliates of Ashurst.

Why one NZ law firm edited an image of its graduates
Simpson Grier has posted a picture of some of its 2018 graduates while keeping in mind potential reputational damage.

The New Zealand law firm ‘photoshopped’ the image to remove wine glasses. The firm’s HR consultant Poncho Rivera-Pavon told Newsroom.co.nz that the glasses were removed to ensure the focus was on the young lawyers’ achievements.
