Cowell Clarke has bolstered its financial services practice with the appointments of Hillary Ray as partner and Elaine Wilson as senior associate.

Ray – who has experience in private practice, government service, in-house roles, and establishing her own business – is a specialist in financial services regulation. She started her career at Baker McKenzie before moving to an in-house role at Westpac.

She then became a senior lawyer at the Australian Securities and Investments Commission, spending more than seven years at the agency. She has also acted as consultant to Sparke Helmore and Gadens (now Dentons) before founding Hemisphere Legal, where she became director and principal solicitor.

Ray’s practice also specialises in fintech and the application of law to technology, particularly in the area of digital payment products.

Wilson has also worked in senior roles at the ASIC and in private practice. She provides regulatory and litigation advice and her clients include financial planners, insurers and accountants.

She has appeared for clients before South Australia’s Supreme, District, and Magistrates courts, as well as the Federal Court of Australia.
