Clayton Utz has tapped M&A, energy, and competition law experts to make a $58m energy company acquisition a reality.

The independent firm advised Origin Energy on its acquisition of OC Energy. The firm’s team, headed by partner Samy Mansour, worked closely with Origin’s in-house legal team on the transaction, the firm said.

The Clayton Utz team also included partners Emma Covacevich, Simon Brady, Michael Corrigan, and Faith Taylor. They were supported by senior associate Andrew Lassman, as well as lawyers Qasim Rasool and Michael Beukelman.

Mansour said that the deal will expand Origin’s centralised energy business, primarily in New South Wales and Victoria.

Origin has agreed to pay $33m upfront as well as $25m in deferred payments for OC, which was counselled by Mills Oakley.
