Clayton Utz acts on project financing deal for lithium mineral producer

Clayton Utz has advised lithium mineral producer Talison Lithium on a $770m project financing deal to fund the expansion of its Greenbushes plant in the south-west region of Western Australia.

The firm advised on the drafting and negotiation of the suite of finance documents for the project financing. Perth banking and financial services partner Rohan Mishra led the firm's deal team, with key support from special counsel Kate Casellas and lawyer Natasha Graham.

Talison Lithium will use the finance to add new chemical grade plants, a tailings treatment plant, and infrastructure at the Greenbushes plant. At full production, the plant is expected to produce the highest volume of battery-grade lithium hydroxide in the world.

The project is significant for Western Australia in revitalising efforts to attract and develop secondary processing opportunities for the billions of dollars of minerals mined across the state annually.
